Highest Military Awards of Countries

Almost every country has a highest military decoration awarded for extraordinary gallantry in the face of the enemy. LAT General Knowledge papers frequently ask students to match a country with the name of its top military award, so these need to be memorised as pairs.

Important country – highest military award pairs:

• Pakistan – Nishan-e-Haider
• India – Param Vir Chakra
• Sri Lanka – Silva Weera
• Bangladesh – Bir Sreshtho
• Malaysia – Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa
• Iraq – Order of Al Rafidhain
• Philippines – Medal of Valour
• Republic of China (Taiwan) – The Order of the Cloud and Banner (instituted 15 June 1935)
• Japan – Order of the Rising Sun
• Vietnam – National Order of Vietnam
• Turkey – Order of the Crescent
• Kuwait – Wisam-al-Tahir
• Israel – Medal of Valour

Tip: Pakistan's Nishan-e-Haider and India's Param Vir Chakra are the two most frequently tested awards, so make sure these are the first ones you lock in.
